It was a lovely and very early spring day, when we met up with legendary founder member of rock band Camel, Andy Latimer.
Driving around before our appointment with Andy, who we were to shoot for a main feature and cover image for music magazine, Prog Rock, we came across an ancient wooden water tower in a field that proved ideal for our first location. Looking more like a siege tower from one of the Lord of the Rings movies, I wanted to use the beautifully weathered exterior as the perfect backdrop.
For the cover image, I moved Andy away from the tower and lit him with my Elinchrom Ranger RX that effectively overpowered the sunlight to give me the drama that I wanted and also bringing more detail to the sky.
At another location, I had spotted an area of very tall grass that I thought would be great to shoot through and this proved to be the case when it was later used over two pages of the article. My favourite image was when I used my other Elinchrom RX to completely overpower the daylight and heavily backlighting the grass, while I used my main Elinchrom Ranger to light Andy, who suitably obliged by giving me the perfect expression that was different to the rest of the images.
